Italian Greyhounds
The Italian Greyhound, or IG, is the smallest of the sight hounds. They typically weigh from 8 to 18 pounds and stand about 13 to 15 inches tall at the withers. although they are classified in the 'toy' group based on their weight, they are larger than other toy breeds. The IG's chest is deep, with a tucked up abdomen, long slender legs and a long neck that tapers down to a small head. The face is long and pointed, like a full-sized greyhound. The are true genetic greyhounds, with a bloodline extending back over 2000 years. They can run as fast 25mph at top speed. The IG is affectionate and makes a good companion dog. The breed is excellent for families and enjoys the company of people. While they are excellent with children, the breed's slim build and short coat make them fragile and subject to injury as a result of rough or careless play. The IG is a high energy dog that loves to run, but also easily settles down to be the perfect lap dog. IG's are very athletic and healthy and require little to no grooming.
